Two cracking winners on Guineas day at Newmarket

Newsells Park Stud enjoyed a successful Guineas day at Newmarket on Saturday 6th May with two notable winners, Playful Sound and Ronald R .

In the first race of the card, the valuable 1m1f Spring Lodge Stakes (formerly The Suffolk Stakes) was gamely won by Playful Sound .  Trained by Sir Michael Stoute she was the only filly in the race and was making her four-year-old debut having won three of her four starts last season.  She has clearly returned better than ever and getting black-type is the next aim.

Sir Michael Stoute said: "Playful Sound was over the top when she got beat on her final start last year and she's improved physically and mentally from three to four. We kept her in training to get some black type this year so we'll look for a Listed race now."

Owned and bred by Newsells Park Stud, Playful Sound is out of the US Gr.2 winner Giants Play (Street Cry ), a daughter of Gr.1 Fillies' Mile winner Playful Act .

Playful Act is a half-sister to the Newsells Park Stud sire Nathaniel who also scored with a notable winner on Guineas day. Ronald R landed the 1m QIPCO Racing Welfare Handicap from the highly regarded Son of the Stars both of whom drew well clear of the rest of the field.

Trainer Michael Bell said: "I know they think a lot of the runner-up and the pair pulled almost three lengths clear of the third, so the form looks strong. The obvious race for Ronald R now is the Britannia Stakes at Ascot."

Bred by M Morrissey, this three-year-old colt from Nathaniel's first crop is out of the Gr.3 performer Amazon Beauty , a half-sister to multiple Group performer Asti .

Two excellent winners worth following this season!
