Stud Fees for 2016 and new 'Filly+ Scheme'

Newsells Park Stud has announced the 2016 fees for their three resident stallions, Equiano, Mount Nelson and Nathaniel.

Dual Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes winner, Equiano will stand for £7,000 (reduced from £8,000), Mount Nelson will stand for £5,000 (from £6,000) and Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes and King George winner, Nathaniel remains unaltered at £20,000.

In addition, Newsells Park has announced a new payment scheme for both Equiano and Mount Nelson, called the ‘Filly+ Scheme’.

Simply put, breeders using either Equiano or Mount Nelson in 2016 will have the option of either taking ‘Filly Foal, Free Return’ terms or ‘50% Rebate’ terms should they subsequently breed a filly foal by either stallion.  These are on top of the Newsells Park Stud standard 1st October, Special Live Foal terms.

Commenting on the new scheme, Newsells’ General Manager, Julian Dollar said, “We have always striven to offer great value to our customers and recognise that the market for the product of this type of stallion is extremely competitive.  Rightly or wrongly the market for fillies is especially tough, so we felt some way to make life easier for our clients could only be a good thing.  ‘Filly Foal, Free Return’ terms are nothing new, but I believe giving breeders the option of choosing a 50% rebate instead should they breed a filly foal is.”

Equiano has had a fantastic year.  He has produced 23 individual juvenile winners and another five black-type two-year-olds, including the Gr.3 and Listed winner, Fly On The Night and the Listed winner, Waipu Cove.  Equiano was at his best as an older horse, so it has been no surprise to see his three-year-olds progress this season, with the Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 second, Strath Burn and The Tin Man being especially impressive.  Equiano is the only sire this year with two of the top ten three-year-old sprinters in Europe.”

Mount Nelson has had another extremely solid year and remains a very underrated stallion. With 23 Group or Stakes horses already to his name and consistently producing two and three-year-old Group performers including Holy Moly, Palawan and Weltmacht this season, he is great value at £5,000.  His colts continue to be well received and if his fillies are less commercial, (surprising given his success with fillies), then hopefully our new ‘Filly+ Scheme’ seeks to address that.

“Finally, the response to Nathaniel’s first yearlings has been fantastic.  Even wearing my rose tinted spectacles, I never dreamed that firstly his foals and now his yearlings would be so overwhelmingly well received.  For his yearlings to average £130,000 (6½ times his stud fee) by the end of the October sales was especially rewarding.  His stock are strong, attractive and athletic, and more than that they have a great attitude.  John Gosden told me recently that Nathaniel would have run through a brick wall for you if you had asked him and that’s the kind of temperament we are now seeing in his youngstock.”
