Nathaniel yearlings in demand at sales realising up to 675,000gns

The first yearlings by Nathaniel continue to be in demand at the sales, realising up to 675,000gns and an impressive average of 232,769gns for 13 lots sold last week at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1.

MV Magnier was the buyer of this top lot, Lot 145, a colt out of Danehill Dreamer whose dam is a half-sister to Gr.1 winners Summoner and Compton Admiral as well as Twyla Tharp, dam of multiple Gr.1 winner The Fugue.

John Warren’s persistence as underbidder forced Magnier up to 675,000gns and completed a great pinhook for Timmy Hyde’s Camas Park Stud, which bought the youngster for 125,000gns at the December Sale.

Another outstanding pinhooking result for a Nathaniel yearling was Lot 367, a filly out of Our Queen Of Kings who sold to Juddmonte Farms for 600,000gns, with Richard Brown the underbidder.  Consigned by Watership Down Stud for Tom Wilson, this half-sister to Gr.1 Sun Chariot Stakes winner Spinning Queen, dam of Stakes winners Trade Commissioner and Gallipot, and Stakes perfomer Shannon Springs, was purchased as a foal in December by Charlie Gordon-Watson for 300,000gns.

Khalid Abdullah’s Racing Manager Lord Grimthorpe said: “That’s what we’ve been looking for this week, to try and buy into what’s a relatively new family for us.  Obviously she’s a sister to a Group 1 winner and it’s a good, strong, producing family, which is very important for us.  We’re looking at her long term.

“It’s quite interesting – Nathaniel was second to Frankel on his first start and third to Frankel on their last starts, so they had no dissimilar careers.  Both horses are by Galileo which is interesting, but Nathaniel looks to have had a good start.”

Watership Down Stud also offered the Nathaniel Lot 472, who was hammered down to Dermot Farrington for 500,000gns.  The March foal is a half-brother to Gr.1 Canadian International Stakes and Gr.2 Prix de Pomone winner Sarah Lynx, and Gr.3 winner Sugar Boy.

One of the highlights of the Newsells Park Stud consignment was by their resident sire Nathaniel, Lot 267, and he did not disappoint fetching 525,000gns.   This half-brother to Gr.2 2yo Royal Lodge and Royal Ascot Stakes winner Berkshire and Keenes Royale, dam of Gr.2 winner and multiple Gr.1 placed Ivawood out of the Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera winner Kinnaird was purchased by Charlie Gordon-Watson for Al Shaqab Racing.

Yearlings by this exciting young sire and dual Gr.1 winning son of Galileo are averaging £168,000 for 27 yearlings sold so far, so make sure you see the 23 yearlings by Nathaniel at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 this week.

To date Nathaniel yearlings have been purchased by Blandford Bloodstock, Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock, Dermot Farrington, John Ferguson, Juddmonte Farms, Charlie Gordon-Watson, MV Magnier, David Redvers, Shadwell Estate Co, John & Jake Warren, etc.
