First yearlings by Nathaniel average over £120,000

The first yearlings by Nathaniel continue to be well received with them averaging £123,000 to date after sales at both the Arqana August Yearling Sales and the DBS Premier Sales.

Highlights include a bay colt out of Tesary (Danehill), dam of multiple winner of £147,967 Verbeeck, from the family of Champion sprinter and sire Anabaa, realising £190,000 at the DBS Premier Sale (Lot 58).   Consigned by Hillwood Stud, he was purchased by Angus Gold for Shadwell Estate Co Ltd, after earlier bids from Alistair Donald, Peter and Ross Doyle.

Angus Gold said: “I’ve not seen many Nathaniel’s, but those I’ve seen I’ve liked and he was a high-class horse with stamina, which is exactly what we need.  This colt should have a bit of speed, being out of a Danehill mare and Nathaniel’s trainer (John Gosden) rated him very highly.  I would imagine he could be his trainer.”

Another yearling by Nathaniel to reach six figures at the DBS Premier Sale, was the colt out of Ronaldsay (Kirkwall), a Stakes winning dam of Gale Force Ten, winner of the Jersey Stakes (Gr.3), and second in the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas (Gr.1) and Norfolk Stakes (Gr.2) (Lot 500).  Consigned by Stowell Hill Stud, he was purchased by Howson & Houldsworth for £160,000.

At the Arqana August Yearling Sale the top lot by Nathaniel sold for €200,000 to Charlie Gordon Watson for Al Shaqab Racing.  Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, the colt is out of Alabastrine (Green Desert),  and is a half-brother to Hail Ceasar (Montjeu), who was fourth in the Derby Trial Stakes (Gr.2), from the impressive family of Diamondsandrubies, Aussie Rules, Last Second, Allegretto, Alboarada, Yesterday, etc (Lot 200).

Charlie Gordon Watson said: “He will take time but he is a lovely model.  He is a great-moving and athletic horse who will stay in France.  I like Nathaniel a lot as a sire and his progeny that I have seen have impressed me very much.”

Two more Nathaniel yearlings sold for six figures at Arqana, a filly out of Ivory Rose (Green Desert), from the family of Lope de Vega, consigned by Coulonces Consignment was knocked down for €175,000 to David Redvers for Qatar Racing (Lot 76).

In addition, a filly consigned by Newsells Park Stud out of Mosqueras Romance (Rock of Gibraltar), a multiple Stakes performer out of Mosquera, realised €170,000 when purchased by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock (Lot 109).

Yearlings by this exciting first season sire will also be on offer at the Keeneland September Sale, Goffs Orby and Tattersalls October Yearling Sales.
