Nathaniel's first foals impress

The first foals of the Group 1 Eclipse and King George winner Nathaniel have continued to impress during what has been a busy foaling season at Newsells Park Stud, which has seen the arrival of 80 foals to date.

The Nathaniel’s born at Newsells include a half-brother to Gr.2 Royal Lodge winner and leading 2000 Guineas prospect, Berkshire, as well as half-sisters to 1000 Guineas winner, Speciosa and Gr.1 Sun Chariot winner, Spinning Queen.

Nathaniel covered a book of 148 high-class mares last year, including 120 Group and Stakes winners or producers, and breeders have been quick to praise his first foals.  “The reports we have received on Nathaniel’s foals have been incredibly positive and confirm what we have seen for ourselves both at Newsells Park and around other studs.  They are strong, good looking individuals”, said Newsells Park’s general manager, Julian Dollar.

Dwayne Woods of Brook Stud commented, “The Nathaniel foals we have are impressive and remind me a lot of New Approach’s”, while The National Stud’s Managing Director, Brian O’Rourke, who has had a number of Nathaniel foals through his hands said, “The Nathaniel’s all seem to be quality individuals with great action.”

Barry Reilly, Manager of Woodcote Stud, breeder of last year’s Gr.1 Racing Post Trophy winner, Kingston Hill was another breeder enthusing about his Nathaniel foal, a filly out of Petite Nymphe, who he described as a “Cracking filly.  She absolutely oozes class”. Amelie Ehrnrooth of the Haras de Bourgeauville is also very happy with her Nathaniel foal, ‘we liked Bayourida’s filly so much,’ she commented, ‘that we have sent the mare back to Nathaniel again this year.’

Nathaniel continues to be well supported by Newsells and the other members of his syndicate, as well as outside breeders and he will cover more than 140 mares again in 2014. The son of Galileo has attracted high class mares from England, Ireland, France, Italy, and Germany and will also be supported by several breeders based in the US and further afield. The mares in his 2014 book include top race fillies like Goldamix, from the Wertheimers, and Magic America, from George Strawbridge, and the Aga Kahn’s Sage et Jolie, a Gr.2 winner herself and the dam of Gr.1 winner and sire Sageburg. Other proven producers include Out West, the dam of Motivator, Indian Love Bird, the dam of Delegator, and Rose Quartz, the dam of Rajsaman.

The Newsells mares to be covered this year include recent purchases like the Irish Group winner Glowing, the multiple stakes producer Noahs Ark, as well as Dream Day, the dam of the French classic hope Delhi, Blue Rhapsody, the dam of Western Hymn and George Washington’s Date With Destiny.
