Nathaniel and Mount Nelson feature in World Thoroughbred Rankings

Newsells Park Stud's stallions Nathaniel and Mount Nelson both feature in the World Thoroughbred Rankings (WTR) published this week.

Nathaniel ranks the leading middle-distance horse domestically showing tremendous consistency in running to a WTR rating of 126 on each of his starts last year, matching his three-year-old rating.

His debut last year started with a gallant victory in the Eclipse Stakes (Gr.1), then he was just beaten by a nose by Danedream (WTR 124) in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr.1), a race he won as a three-year-old. He was back at ten furlongs for his final two runs, finishing second to Snow Fairy (WTR 124) in the Irish Champion Stakes (Gr.1) and finishing third behind the world’s top two horses, Frankel and Cirrus Des Aigles, in the Champion Stakes (Gr.1).

Mount Nelson also featured in the World Thoroughbred Rankings due to his daughter Purr Along being the joint highest rated two-year-old filly with a rating of 111.  Purr Along won the Prix du Calvados (Gr.3) in Deauville, and also finished second to the highest rated filly Certify in the May Hill Stakes (Gr.2) at Doncaster.

This dual Gr.1 winning son of Rock Of Gibraltar proved to be a leading first-crop sire with 3 Stakes horses and 13 individual two-year-old winners of 22 races.
