Nathaniel runs a superb race in the Irish Champion Stakes

Nathaniel ran a superb race to finish second to Snow Fairy in the Irish Champion Stakes (Gr.1) at Leopardstown on Saturday 8th September.  He also broke the track record for the Champion Stakes at Leopardstown making him the fastest ever colt to run in this race.

In fact, having carrried 3lb more than Snow Fairy, Nathaniel actually secured the highest rating of the week of 127 according to Racing Post ratings expert Sam Walker.

Trainer John Gosden said:  "I'm thrilled with him as he ran a superb race.  We were using it as a prep race for the Arc, so let's hope all goes well in the lead-up to Longchamp.  I think the race will bring him on, and the step up to a mile and a half will be fine for him."

Nathaniel was following up his brave second by just a nose in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr.1) and game victory in the Coral Eclipse (Gr.1) this season for joint owners Lady Rothschild and Newsells Park Stud.

Newsells Park Stud has recently purchased an interest in last year’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr.1) winner, Nathaniel, with a view to standing the beautifully bred son of Galileo at the stud at the end of his racing career.

Nathaniel is one of eight Stakes winners out of his dam Magnificient Style, with his full sister, Great Heavens, gaining victory in the Darley Irish Oaks (Gr.1) at the Curragh this year.
