Newsells secures a stake in Gr.1 winner Nathaniel

Newsells Park Stud has recently purchased an interest in last year’s Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner, Nathaniel, with a view to standing the beautifully bred son of Galileo at the stud at the end of his racing career.

Bred by Kincorth Investments Inc. and owned by Lady Rothschild, Nathaniel comes from one of the finest families in the book.  He is out of the exceptional Silver Hawk mare, Magnificient Style, winner of the Musidora Stakes and dam of seven Stakes winners including Playful Act (Gr.1 Fillies Mile and dam of Gr.2 winner, Giants Play), Echoes in Eternity (Gr.2 Park Hill Stakes & Sun Chariot Stakes and dam of Gr.3 winner, Whispering Gallery), Percussionist (Gr.2 Yorkshire Cup) and Changing Skies (Gr.3 The Very One Stakes).

Nathaniel made his debut at Newmarket’s July Course where he came the closest any rival has yet to beating World Champion two-year-old and three-year-old, Frankel.  Timeform gave Nathaniel a rating of 101p at the end of his two-year-old season.

Nathaniel came out on his three-year-old debut to win his maiden in facile style by nine lengths and followed that up with an unlucky second to subsequent Gr.1 Irish Derby winner, Treasure Beach in the Gr.3 Chester Vase.  Bypassing the Epsom Derby, Nathaniel took his opportunity to run in the Royal Ascot equivalent, the Gr.2 King Edward VII Stakes, where he defeated a quality field impressively by five lengths.  He returned to Ascot the following month to win the Gr.1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in fine style ahead of the previous years’ Epsom Derby and Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe winner, Workforce, multiple Gr.1 winner, St. Nicholas Abbey and Gr.1 Arlington Million winner, Dubussy, earning an official rating of 128 in the process.  In doing so, Nathaniel became only the second three-year-old in the past decade to win this prestigious race, emulating his great sire, Galileo.

In the official 2011 World Thoroughbred Rankings, Nathaniel was rated the highest three-year-old colt over 10f and 12f and second only to Frankel overall.

Newsells Park Stud’s General Manager, Julian Dollar said:  “We are thrilled to have purchased an interest in Nathaniel.  He is a horse we have been watching very closely since he made his impressive two-year-old debut at Newmarket.  He possesses an outstanding pedigree, is a great looking horse and is one of the best racehorses currently in training.  In short he ticks every box!  With his impeccable credentials, he will be handsomely supported by both Newsells Park and his breeder and independently owned outside of Europe’s big two stallion operations, we believe he will prove a very interesting stallion prospect for breeders.”

Lady Rothschild’s racing and bloodstock advisor, James Wigan added: “Lady Rothschild is delighted to have gone into partnership with Andreas Jacobs of Newsells Park Stud, as she feels that they both have a similar commitment to racing and breeding in this country and will give Nathaniel every opportunity to succeed as a stallion.”
